Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) has launched a global partnership with endurance swimmer and environmental campaigner Lewis Pugh.
Lewis recently completed a multi-day climate swim across the mouth of the Illulissat Icefjord in Greenland to highlight the damaging effects of climate change. He is calling on all nations to cut their emissions significantly and to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.
Lewis covered the 7.8-kilometre distance in 14 sessions over 12 days, in water temperatures between 0 and 3 degrees C. This was by far the most challenging swim of his career as he navigated his way through icebergs and brash ice.
Michelle Scrimgeour, CEO, LGIM and Co-Chair of the COP26 Business Leaders Group, says: “Through this endurance swim and his focus on biodiversity, Lewis shares a common purpose with LGIM: our goal is to create a better future through responsible investing. Climate change remains the number one challenge for us today. I am determined that we will do all that we can to tackle this. Inaction is not an option."
